Nigeria Warns Citizens Against Joining Foreign Conflicts

(MENAFN) Nigeria’s foreign ministry has issued an urgent advisory after reports emerged of its citizens being recruited to fight abroad, as stated by reports.

The warning follows claims from Ukrainian officials that two Nigerians were killed in combat last year. While Nigeria has not confirmed these deaths, a foreign ministry spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, said on Sunday that "several Nigerians who have fallen victim to such unfortunate situations were deployed to combat zones after being misled and coerced into signing military service contracts."

Kenya has issued a similar caution to its citizens.

According to Nigerian authorities, investigations and security reports indicate that some nationals were lured with promises of well-paid jobs, security roles, educational opportunities, or migration incentives, only to find themselves in active war zones.

In some cases, victims were reportedly forced to sign contracts in foreign languages without proper legal guidance, and their travel documents were confiscated upon arrival.

Intermediaries are also said to have arranged travel using tourist or other non-military visas.
